What Army Cadets do

What if you were informed about a dynamic and structured youth program that provides a wide range of engaging and challenging activities to Canadian youth?

What if you were told that this program helps young individuals develop higher levels of self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-awareness?

Cadets are encouraged to enhance their physical fitness, excel in their academics, and actively contribute to their communities through volunteer work and citizenship activities.

Moreover, the Cadet Program has a significant impact on Canadian society as a whole. Cadets are given opportunities to assume leadership roles, resulting in well-rounded, community-oriented individuals who are prepared to become future leaders and decision-makers.

The Cadet Program is truly unparalleled, as it offers unique experiences that cannot be found elsewhere. It cultivates an interest in Army activities within the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). In order to achieve this, we provide dynamic training in a supportive and efficient environment that embraces change as a positive and necessary element.

EXPEDITION

Expeditions are instrumental in acquiring expertise in navigating long distances across diverse environments. Army cadets also receive training in maintaining and managing their field equipment.

Upon reaching a more advanced level, cadets have the opportunity to partake in more arduous and extended expeditions. These expeditions encompass activities such as mountaineering, exploring caves (caving), and navigating white water rafting.

Physical Fitness

The army cadet program offers many sports activities that are not available to other elements such as climbing, mountain biking and rafting. In addition to practicing these activities at the unit, several summer camps are offered to improve your skills in these disciplines. Each year, a few experienced cadets can participate in a parachuting course.

Survival

Army cadets participate in outdoor training exercises during both summer and winter seasons. These exercises aim to equip them with essential skills such as building improvised shelters, effectively utilizing natural resources for survival, igniting fires, locating water sources, ensuring their visibility for rescue operations, and acquiring various other practical abilities.

Map and Compass

Army cadets are trained to navigate through wilderness environments using a range of methods, including maps and compasses, GPS technology, and celestial navigation. These skills enable cadets to successfully find their way in any situation.

Mission of the Cadet Program

Our goal is to support the growth and readiness of young individuals as they navigate the journey to adulthood. We aim to empower them to successfully confront the demands of contemporary society by means of an engaging, community-oriented initiative.

Vision of the Cadet Program

We are a reputable and forward-thinking youth development organization that provides a program tailored to the needs of Canadian youth, equipping them with the skills and values necessary to become future leaders. Our program offers a range of engaging, challenging, well-structured, and safe activities. In pursuit of our vision, we also uphold shared Canadian and military values, placing special emphasis on:

  • Loyalty, which signifies our collective commitment to the ideals of the Cadet Movement and to all its members.

  • Professionalism, which entails carrying out all tasks with pride and diligence.

  • Mutual Respect, which involves treating others with dignity and equality.

  • Integrity, which requires the courage and dedication to embody trust, sincerity, and honesty.

The Ultimate Challenge

The Royal Canadian Army Cadets offer exciting outdoor activities for teenagers who are looking to challenge themselves both individually and as part of a team. Our program focuses on developing various skills such as map and compass navigation, GPS technology, orienteering, first-aid, camping, survival skills, canoeing, abseiling, trekking, mountain biking, and more. As cadets gain experience, they may have the opportunity to participate in activities like parachuting, white-water rafting, and glacier climbing.

They will also learn valuable leadership skills and take part in ceremonial military events and citizenship activities that help them connect to their Canadian heritage. Our cadets develop a strong sense of pride and discipline through their involvement in a structured and hierarchical system, which also allows them to mentor and care for younger cadets. Additionally, cadets can engage in other exciting activities like competitive marksmanship and biathlon, sports competitions, music training and competitions, cultural outings, and community support through volunteering.

With Canada's diverse and breathtaking landscape, our organization provides an exceptional setting for teenagers and adults interested in exploring the outdoors. We are the preferred choice for individuals looking to step outside the classroom and experience the world as it should be.

National and International Expeditions

EEvery year, a select group of our most accomplished cadets have the privilege of participating in high-level expeditions across the globe. In recent years, these expeditions have taken us to various esteemed destinations such as Morocco, Australia, Costa Rica, South Korea, Italy, Mont-Blanc, the France/Spain Pyrenees, New Zealand, the Canadian Rockies, the Northwest Territories, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Regardless of the chosen destination, our cadets will invariably encounter the utmost challenge that awaits them.

“Many people think of Cadets as preparation for a career in the military, but it is really about preparing for life; about developing skills, the qualities and the confidence that will allow these young people to prosper and contribute to the Canada of tomorrow.”
— Senator Art Eggleton, former Minister of National Defence.
